In May 2023, My beloved 12-year old son Joseph (JoJo) was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive form of cancer - DESMOPLASTIC SMALL ROUND CELL TUMOR (DSRCT). He is currently undergoing an aggressive treatment protocol at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. In addition to multiple chemotherapy cycles, his treatment protocol also includes multiple surgeries (he had a 15 hour surgery to remove tumors from his upper abdomen in September 2023 with more surgeries to follow to remove disease from the other parts of his body) and radiation therapy in the many months ahead.  During his upper abdominal surgery, the surgeons removed his spleen, gallbladder, omentum, and portions of his liver, both sides of the diaphragm, colon, and over 100 tumors from the free space of his abdomen.  There is still disease to be removed from the lower abdomen and pelvis-surgery scheduled for December.  Jojo has an Ilieostomy which is expected to stay until about 8 weeks after the next surgery-unless they need to remove his rectum which we are really hoping doesn't happen.

I am a single mom of two, who is unable to continue working full time, while serving as JoJo's primary caretaker. This fundraiser will allow JoJo's father and myself to focus on JoJo's care while he is going through this difficult journey to recovery (IYH). Funds will go towards living expenses,  medical costs, travel expenses, child care costs for Jordan (JoJo's 9 year old brother,) and other expenses.

JoJo is a strong kid who is facing his challenges with a great attitude, even though sometimes he goes through a significant amount of pain and discomfort.  He recently celebrated his Bar Mitzvah-it was a beautiful event attended by family and many friends.
