Foundation News

The Bone Marrow Foundation is proud to announce that the organization's founder and Executive Director, Christina Merrill, has been selected to receive Traditional Home magazine's 2011 Classic Woman Award. In its November/December 2011 issue, the magazine profiles five women who are making a measurable difference in their communities and in the lives of others. This year, supporters and The Bone Marrow Foundation board members Charlotte Moss and Meg Braff nominated Christina in recognition of her tireless efforts on behalf of bone marrow recipients and their families. For almost 20 years, Christina has passionately fought to provide the funding and resources that those affected by cancer and other genetic disorders so desperately need. Christina Merrill has touched the lives of thousands of children and adults since she began The Bone Marrow Foundation in 1992.

The Bone Marrow Foundation was involved with the BGC/Cantor Fitzgerald "Charity Day” on September 13, 2010, held each year to help commemorate the friends and workers they lost on 9/11. BGC devotes a day each year to hosting celebrities who act as brokers, donating proceeds to a collection of (generally) small, New York-based charities. We had a great group of celebrities supporting our cause, including Evan Handler (Californication, Sex & the City), Rima Fakih (Miss USA 2010), Gus Johnson (CBS Sports), Anthony Herrera & Colleen Zenk (As the World Turns), Justin Jeremy Gimelstob (tennis pro), Jonathan Alter (bestselling author and Newsweek columnist), and Earl “The Pearl” Monroe (four-time NBA All Star). Photos can be found on our Facebook page. In the video below, Carol Alt and Evan Handler speak to Liz Claman from the Fox Business Network about Charity Day.

On May 3rd, 26 teams of golfers and their guests attended our 17th Annual Sports Legends Golf Classic. The event raised awareness and more than $100,000 to help support the Foundation's efforts to help families who are facing the overwhelming costs associated with bone marrow/stem cell transplants.

We are grateful to all who attended; you made a difference in the lives of many children and adults facing a difficult challenge.
